How Bon Apit Became the Heart of a Café’s Brand Identity

When I opened my design board for a new café branding project, I knew the typography had to feel warm, inviting, and a little whimsical. The client wanted a look that balanced artisanal charm with modern approachability. I had downloaded Bon Apit a few weeks earlier — a sweet, soft hand-lettered script font with playful rounded characters that make it perfect for creating stunning art. I hadn’t had the chance to test it yet, but this project felt like the perfect fit.

First Impressions: Bon Apit in Logo Design

My first test was the café’s logo. I opened Illustrator and typed out the business name in Bon Apit. Instantly, it felt right. The font’s soft curves and slightly irregular strokes gave the brand a handmade, personal touch. It wasn’t too cursive or formal — it had just the right amount of bounce to feel lively but not childish. As a script handwritten font, Bon Apit brought a sense of authenticity that felt genuine for a small, locally owned café.

I adjusted the spacing and added a simple sans serif for the tagline. The contrast between Bon Apit and a clean modern font created a strong visual hierarchy while keeping the identity cohesive. The client loved the warmth and character it brought to the logo — it felt like a warm greeting from the brand itself.

Using Bon Apit for Packaging Design

Next came the packaging. The café was launching a line of house-made jams and pastries, so we needed labels that stood out on the shelf but also felt like part of the same story. I used Bon Apit for the product names — “Raspberry Marmalade,” “Lemon Lavender Shortbread” — and it worked beautifully.

Because Bon Apit is a display font best used in short-form text, it was perfect for label headers and special accents. I made sure not to overuse it — saving it for key elements like product names and flavor descriptions. The rounded characters gave the packaging a soft, friendly tone that aligned with the café’s values of community and care.

Brand Materials: From Business Cards to Social Media

Once the logo and packaging were set, I moved into supporting brand materials — business cards, social media templates, and printed flyers. Bon Apit shined in these smaller, more intimate applications. On Instagram stories, it looked like a personal note from the café, which helped build a stronger emotional connection with followers.

For printed materials like thank-you cards and menu inserts, I used Bon Apit as an accent font. It added a touch of personality without overwhelming the more functional typography. The font’s authenticity and softness made it ideal for handwritten-style callouts and special promotions.

Testing Bon Apit Across Mediums

Before finalizing the brand system, I ran a few tests. I printed sample business cards and mockups of signage to see how Bon Apit held up in real-world conditions. At a distance, the font still read clearly — especially when used in bold or with a white background. On a chalkboard-style menu board, it looked like it was hand-lettered by a local artist, which was exactly the vibe we were going for.

I also checked digital applications — how Bon Apit would render on a website header or mobile app. Since it’s a downloadable font, I made sure the file formats were compatible with web use. The font performed well across platforms, maintaining its soft curves and legibility even at smaller sizes.

Pairing Bon Apit with Other Fonts

One of the most important aspects of using Bon Apit was finding the right font pairings. As a script handwritten font, it needed a supporting typeface that balanced its organic flow. I chose a clean sans serif for body text and subheadings — something like Montserrat or Lato. This combination gave the brand a modern yet personable feel.

I avoided pairing Bon Apit with other scripts or overly decorative fonts. Since it already has a strong personality, letting it shine as the main attraction worked best. When I did use another script, it was always for a specific visual purpose — like a decorative divider or a special icon font.

What to Know Before Using Bon Apit in Branding

If you're considering Bon Apit for your next project, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Overall, Bon Apit proved to be a versatile and emotionally resonant choice for this café’s branding. Whether you're working on a logo, packaging design, or digital graphics, this script font brings a level of warmth and authenticity that’s hard to replicate with more rigid typefaces.
